Harpenden Dolphins C.C. v Allenburys on Sat 04 Jun 2011 at 1pm
Harpenden Dolphins C.C. Won by 5 runs

Match report The track at Rothamstead looked glorious on a perfectly sun soaked day! Putting up the site screens is a great warm up and with Dolphins nicely warmed up, we were ready for the game against visitors from Allenburys! Dolphins had a special visitor, young Thomas Gregory made his first appearance for the Dolphins! Tom lost the toss and Dolphins were put into bat. Ant and Duncan opened the innings and before I could get my pads on, Ant was on his way back (perhaps too eager to spend time with his nephew)!! Duncan and I put on a 45 run partnership before I holed out to the same bowler who had got me last year! After playing some fantastic pull shots (one of which missed the short leg by a whisker), Duncan fell to a good catch in the slips for a well compiled 27. Chris was next up and played some glorious shots making us think that this is going to be his day! Holdy on the other end looking good. But both fell in quick succession and we were once again under pressure. Tom Jubb walked out to the middle and he was joined by Tom Roche We now needed someone to fire and thats exactly what Tom Jubb did, 26 quick runs with 6 boundaries put on a quick partnership with his skipper. However, Dolphins cant bear the departure of their partner and follow them to the hut quickly!! Wickets fell in pairs. With a few good blows from Andy and a controversial run out, Dolphins folded up for 127 in less than 40 overs. Giving 10 men opposition a very modest target on one of the best 'batting' tracks I have ever seen at Rothamstead! There were some whispers at tea that Dolphins were hoping to start the BBQ early!! Teas were lovely as always, big thanks to Giovannis! Holdy and Andy Gregory opened the bowling attach and after beating the bat a number of times, Holdy got the first breakthrough with me juggling what was a simple catch! This is exactly what we needed, Tails were up. However, there was some resistance for the second wicket until Andy Fereday came onto bowl as first change and stuck immediately (aided by Rothamstead pitch)! Andy G then cleaned up the next bat. Skipper than brought on himself from one end and bowled a lively spell. I was given the ball after Andy F had bowled his spell. Was lucky to get a wicket of a full toss! I got the second one to a spectacular one handed catch by Graham Coulthards. Tom then got batsman 3, caught by Duncan and Dolphins could go for the jugular. Howevr, there was some resistance from the youngsters in Allenburys team, until what was the champagne moment of the match. Batsman played a firm drive to mid off and Andy F direct throw put an end to Allenburys hopes, 7 down! It was now a matter of patience! Tom suddenly added a few yards of pace and picked up one more! We needed one more and they needed 10 runs!! Last batsman hit one high toward Tom at Mid off, all of us had our hearts in our mouth!! There it was, an incredible victory and quite fittingly Andy G and Tom involved in the last wicket!! Phew, Dolphins won by 5 runs and 30points!! Many highlights, Thomas Gregory's first cricket outing, Tom Jubb's cracking knock, Andy Fereday's classic run out, Teach's one handed catch, wonderful teas, Holdy's tight spell. All in all a great team effort. BBQ at Tom & Karens couldn't have been better timed!! Amit
