Harpenden Dolphins C.C.

Scorecard

Allenburys v Harpenden Dolphins C.C. on Sat 22 Jun 2013 at 1pm
Harpenden Dolphins C.C. Lost by 15 runs

Match report Allenbury welcomed Harpenden with rain, wind and considerable doubt over whether the game will take place. However, the clouds parted and the sun shone just enough to allow the start of play with the Dolphins fielding to start. Harpenden had several early appeals that had the cheer squad excited, then shortly after the first wicket fell which was a great catch by Holdy off Jason Guest’s bowling. Followed closely by the second, bowled by Schalk, all the while the sky was getting darker. The weather then turned and there was a forced pause in the game with Allenbury on 14-2 after 11 overs. Back on the field for several overs and then another pause due to the weather.
Game restarts and Allenbury are 2 wickets for 74 runs off 26 overs. The stops in play meant that we were playing a game of reduced overs.
No more stops in play mean that the Dolphins were free to concentrate on the game at hand. Great bowling from Jason meant that he got 5 wickets and Ollie Lacey got an impressive run out. Schalk and Holdy each took a wicket. There was a mix in catching performance including catches from Phil, Graham, two from Ian and an impressive catch from Schalk and several unsuccessful catches from the team.
Alenbury finished on 141 for 8 off 49 overs.
Now the Dolphins chance to chase and 43 overs to do it. First in to bat were Duncan and Jason, who were both bowled. Duncan for 7 and Jason for 36. Next in were Schalk and Amit. The weather appeared as though it were about to deteriorate again when the Dolphins were on 55 for 2 after 15 overs. Schalk fell for 33 of 37 balls which left the Dolphins 86-3 off 22 overs.
All was looking very positive at the drinks break (apart from the weather) where Dolphins had 20 overs to go with 56 runs required and 7 wickets in hand (a required run rate of 2.8).

Amit, the stand in captain, was then caught behind by the keeper for 16. The constant drone of the A10 (which made hearing rather difficult) would surely be to blame for the mix up in communication that resulted in Holdy being run out. Graham Barrett was then bowled for 12 and Chris Lang in next was out for 5. In the space of 4 overs, Harpenden went from 96-3 to 107-7. Dolphins then required 35 runs off 14 overs. Phil Simpson was then bowled by the opening bowler after scoring 13 runs. With 20 runs left for the Dolphins win, Ollie was joined by Neil bolt at the crease and Zippy was the last man in. In the end Dolphins lost by 15 runs.
Unfortunately the Dolphins were unable to thrive in their natural wet habitat; this was surely due to the abandonment of the cheer squad at tea. Another bad day on the field.
