St Albans III v Harpenden Dolphins C.C. on Sat 29 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Harpenden Dolphins C.C. Won by 10 wickets

Match report On a day where it was hot, very hot, painstakingly hot some may say, Harpenden Dolphins travelled to St Albans eager to dispel the memories of a late collapse at home to Northchurch last week. On a day where the heat was very hot making it a very hot day for playing cricket the toss was always going to be crucial, conventional wisdom suggesting batting to avoid fielding in the heat would be a nice idea! The Dolphins did indeed win the toss, yet on this day where it was oh so very hot in the heat (which was hot), it was decided taking to the field was for the best. Dricco immediately did his best to prove his captain wrong, taking breaks from falling over only to bowl at something well shy of his best. Ollie managed to burgle two, a highlight being his deceiving of their opener with a short, slow, wide one which JJ was able to catch. JJ and Adam Roache then proceeded to take the game away from St Albans, with tight 9 over spells which brought three wickets between them – Adam especially was unlucky to only claim one. All the while in the very hot heat which was still very very hot, Dolphins continued to field well, Godders making many good stops. The Gios then came into the attack, Ron bowling with his usual control, taking one wicket, whilst struggling with the heat which was definitely still very very hot for the fielding team. Billy also claimed two wickets, the highlight being one which saw JJ take a diving catch coming in from deep square leg. A gutsy partnership for the final few wickets and a few drops from the Dolphins saw St Albans limp their way to 157 and saw the Dolphins head for tea feeling generally pleased with their efforts, especially considering they had been fielding in the heat which was, as ever, very very hot.
JJ and Ant went out to open and set about their task in what can only be described in a clinical manner. The openers were seen off with relative ease, Ant playing a series of delightful late cuts for four and JJ hitting a huge bomb over midwicket as the Dolphins raced to 50 and St Albans began themselves to realise it wasn’t all that fun fielding in the hot heat which was still very hot. The 100 partnership soon followed, Tony the Tiger and JJ both passing 50 in quick succession. The only issue facing the Dolphins at this stage seemed to be the Mongolian pad rash facing number three Rich Foord and the Tibetan thigh rash on number four Ben Lewis. JJ and Ant both passed 70 and wrapped up the win conveniently in time to prevent anyone needing to prepare for a second drinks break. A good 30 points for the Dolphins in the hot heat which was very hot, we return to the top of the league on run rate, a strong team performance by all.
