Harpenden Dolphins Presidents Day 2023 : Sunday 11 June

03 May 2023

Fellow Dolphins,

Our annual Presidents Day is scheduled this summer for Sunday 11 June.  I should like to invite all members of the Dolphins, past and present, plus their families, to our annual gathering.

Last year, we were able to host the match at Rothamsted Park, on the lower (Amenbury Lane) pitch, the maintenance of which having been awarded to Harpenden Cricket Club by Harpenden Town Council.  With obvious and visible improvements in the pitch, I saw this as positive tentative steps to having the club return to its traditional home in the park, after a period of exile in St Albans because of the poor state of the square.  Late last summer, Harpenden Town Council condemned the pavilion at the lower pitch (it was in a poor state of repair), closing it down pending demolition.  The Council have budget and plans to build a new multi-purpose facility at the same location, a pavilion that shall serve both the upper and lower pitches at Rothamsted Park.  Yet, until they do, we now have a decently maintained pitch yet nowhere to change, host teas nor hide from the occasional shower we seem to get during an English summer!

I have therefore sought an alternative venue for this year’s Presidents Day.  I am very fortunate that my friends at Harpenden Cricket Club have offered to host me at their club, so the match - and our post-match evening social event - shall take place at Harpenden Cricket Club:

Harpenden Cricket Club
The Common
Harpenden

The match will start at 12:30 and shall be a limited overs affair of 35 overs per side, with a tea between innings.  After conclusion of the cricket, you are all invited to join us for a barbeque (and refreshments from the bar) at Harpenden Cricket Club.  I look forward to seeing as many of the Dolphins family as possible during the course of the day - you and your families are most welcome at any stage during the match and, of course, post-match for what I hope will be a warm evening on Harpenden Common!

To help Sarah and I with catering for the cricket tea and the evening barbeque please let me know if you are intending on coming to the match and/or to the post-match social gathering.

With warm wishes,

Graham
