Match report Chris Hall crashes Dolphins to victory.

This week Dolphins were away to Potters Bar IV. The day started well with skipper stuck in traffic so we had to call on Dolphins top tosser - Zippy. Unfortunetly he loss the toss and Potters Bar decided to bat.

What followed next was the best spell of opening bowling since Coco and Holdy skittled out Bayford & Hertford for 66. Schalk and Roy (the duracell duo) bowled 41 overs between them for less than 1.5 runs per over taking 3 wickets each all bowled. All the rest of us had to do was watch in awe of some great bowling. This economy was achieved even without Dolphins usual high fielding standards. Skipper tried to do a long barrier with buttocks only to find the ball go through him. His blushes were saved as the agile Chris Lang raced from cover to the long off boundary to save the four.
Tom and Zippy took over from the Duracell Duo and the Potters Bar batsman finally had something to go after. Schalk fielding at gulley tried to catch the ball with his crutch. Needless to say there was nobody rushing to administer first aid, everybody wincing glad it was Schalk and not them. What came next was the infamous strike of the wibbly wobblies. The Potterts Bar no.6 who had come inand scored freely played a wobbly when he thought he was playing a wibbly. He pulled it gently around the corner to be caught at square leg by Tom. Next ball up the new bat faced wibbly mesmerised he saw it miss his bat and stike his pad, a bit shout saw the batsman return to the hutch. Zippy on a hat-trick, Bonney suggested Tom move in to short leg, listening to this advice he went to field at first slip!!! Zippy once again choose the wibbly the batsman completely deceived allowed the ball to pop up of his bat to the vacant short leg position. Another example of fine captaincy. Undeterred by this Zippy continued to bowl well a lofted drive over Chris Lang head saw him turn and miraculously get his hands to it, parried it up but failed to catch it on the second attempt. Juggling skills learnt from the master - Coco. Deep quickly learnt the skills of Dolphins' fielding diving at point, 2 seconds after the ball had passed him, allowing the ball to be fielded by another in this case Amit. This skill is usually reserved for the elderly Dolphin players.
PB innings ended with another wibbly being hit straight back to Zippy, caught and bowled. PB all out 111, 10 points in the bag for Dolphins.

A lovely tea that included ice lollies - strawberry mivvies. Fantastic.

Bonney and Mike opened confidently taken quick singles, the score moved swiftly onto 38 when Bon missed a straight one - bowled. A disappointed Bon departed knowing he had missed his opportunity. Next up Amit (whose favourite colour is yellow) played on without scoring. Mike was soon to follow playing a late cut to a ball the was to straight and full, a little inside edge - stumps shattered. Dolphins started to wobble!! Deep started strongly with a decent pull shot for four, however he tried to hit the following balls as aggressively, failing to connect with one he was bowled. Tom and Chris started to build a partnership. Chris taking on the fielders with a series of lofted drives. A change of bowling brought on a slow spinner whose tried ball bounced half down the track, Tom's eyes lit up as he attempted to play across the line to square leg, a rush of blood, low bounce and inside edge saw the wicket broken. Tom left the pitch seeing Chris shaking his head and the fielding side laughing at the poor shot selection. Next in Schalke - Chris's advise play straight. His first ball similiar to the one Tom received, however Schalke smashed it to the boundary for 4, although he says he mis-timed it. Chris continued with the lofted drive and was lucky to survive a catch that really should have been held at mid off. Schalke continued to take on the slow bowling almost hitting a flat six to Cow - he middled that one!

Dolphins knocked off the runs easily and Chris was able to get home to Harpenden in time for tea.

A great team effort all round, another 30 points!!
