Knebworth Park IV v Harpenden Dolphins C.C. on Sat 07 Sep 2013 at 12.30pm
Harpenden Dolphins C.C. Won by 6 wickets

Match report Already relegated Harpenden Dolphins travelled to Knebworth Park, a fellow relegated side. Dolphins had the upper ground, being second from bottom compared to Knebworth's last place. Pride was at stake.

With James unavailable and Lacey snr out injured, his younger counterpart donned the gloves having only had 45 overs experience in him. Knebworth won the toss and opted to bat. Schalk and Ron opened up the bowling and kept it tight, with Lacey doing well behind the stumps as he failed to let any byes through in the first 20 overs (despite the fact he dropped a catch off Schalk, landing on his box in the process causing mild discomfort).

It took leading wicket taker Jason Guest to get the breakthrough, which was well caught by the diving Lacey. In quick succession wickets fell, and the bowlers were economical meaning that they were 104-5 off 39 overs.

Roche continued to bowl well taking 3 wickets having good support from Mathur and Lambert. However, Ron Giovanni then cleared up the tail end, taking 1 wicket in his first over of his comeback spell, and then 2 in 2 balls in the following. The latter wicket was superbly caught down legside by Lacey. This meant that Ron was going to be on a hat trick ball all through winter. Knebworth 144 all out.

In a reshuffled batting line up Dolphins looked to experiment to see what could be achieved. Neil Bolt's year was made when he was asked to open the batting alongside James Ball, who was drafted in due to lack of numbers (we greatly appreciate your help). However, Bolt's dream was short-lived as he was dismissed for a duck. Young Lacey joins Ball at the crease, gently working the scoreboard along on a difficult slow pitch. Ball was later stumped for 19.

Bonney joined Lacey at the crease, and went about achieving the target. A rain delay meant that the run rate required was around 5 an over. Lacey was showing his Dad that he too could bat as he entered the 40s and very slowly got to 44 before being caught at midwicket. He took the applause from Knebworths 1st XI as left the pitch. Definitely some potential there for the so called bowler.

Zippy joined Bonney at the crease, and passed 1000 runs by knocking out the oppo's captain, as the ball struck him cleanly between the eyes. Meanwhile, Bonney at the other end notched up to 47, before Downes was run out bringing Guest to the crease. There was much debate as to what he would do. Would he let Bonney get his 50? Apparently not as the first ball was aimed to clip the top of the trees, but no connection was made. Second ball connection was made for a 6 to win the game.
